Taking Your Support to Capitol Hill
Earlier this week, Shell received final approval to drill in the Arctic Ocean – but the fight is far from over. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) has introduced the Stop Arctic Ocean Drilling Act of 2015 (S. 1794), which aims to prohibit oil and gas leasing in the Arctic Ocean, protecting this amazing ecosystem and the wildlife and communities that depend on it. Senator Merkley is an incredible champion for America’s Arctic, advocating protection of not just the Arctic Ocean, but the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as well. We are grateful to him for his continued support.
Over the past week, we have taken the comments and signatures of support for Merkley’s legislation from you, our members, and hand-delivered them to the offices of your representatives in the Senate. From top to bottom, our entire office gets involved in deliveries like this – from our Conservation Director Kristen Miller saying a personal thank you to Senator Merkley, to Ashley, our newest Government Affairs Intern, visiting the office of Senator Gary Peters (D-MI). Thank you for all your support, from coast to coast!
